The project was initiated to rehabilitate and upgrade the airstrip with a view to improving operations, safety and capacity. The runway was to be increased in length to 1700m from 1400m, and to asphalt concrete standards and widened to 20m with 5m shoulders on each side. A concrete apron was to be introduced, drainage rehabilitated, lighting and marking of the runway. In addition, the helipad and the hangar were to be relocated and remodeled and a waiting lounge introduced. Finally, there was creation of storm water retention ponds to serve as drinking points for animals and de-silting of the existing dam to increase water capacity. The airstrip is located within Nanyuki ward within Laikipia East SubCounty.
